Raw: News conference, church fires ruled arson

TYLER - The investigation continues on both Tyler church fires and the Lindale church fire.

The cause of the fire that occurred at 2818 Silvercreek (Tyland Baptist Church) has been ruled as arson. The majority of the work at the scene has been completed; however, the investigation is ongoing.

Additionally, the cause of the fire at 106 E. Second Street (First Church of Christ Scientist) has also been ruled as arson. The majority of the work at the scene has been completed; however the investigation is ongoing.

A large contingent of local, state and federal officials is working to bring the investigation to successful conclusion. Agencies working on the investigation include Tyler and Smith County Fire Marshal’s Offices and Fire Departments, Tyler Police Department, Smith County Sheriff’s Office, ATF, FBI, Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety. Officials with Henderson County and the City of Athens are also working with local authorities.

The cause of the fire that occurred on Oct. 20 in Lindale at Fellowship of Prairie Creek, Bethesda House of Prayer has also been ruled arson.
