tyler, tx — In maybe the biggest race East Texas has seen over the last couple of decades, Larry Smith defeated Chris Green for Smith County Sheriff.

The title had been held continuously by current Sheriff J.B. Smith since 1976.

Larry Smith won the race by a littler over 1,400 votes with about 53% of the total vote. In his victory speech, Smith thanked his supporters, promised to pick up his signs and prepare for the transition into office.
