Recent deaths spur call for more police presence in Longview neighborhood
Longview — Tanya Freeman looks around her neighborhood and wonders why she doesn’t see more police officers patrolling its streets.
Freeman has lived at the corner of Sabine and Park streets in South Longview for the past three years. She blames a string of deaths in the neighborhood on a lack of police presence.
The bodies of two people have been found along the street since mid-October, and, in April, a man was fatally shot at nearby Stamper Park.
“You never see any cops over here,” she said on a recent afternoon, eyeing the area around her house. “You could unload a gun over here and the police probably would never come.”
Renee McDaniel, who lives a few houses away on Park Street, echoed Freeman.
