Red Dirt BBQ Festival draws thousands to ETX
(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — Event organizers say it is the biggest party to ever hit Tyler. Saturday was the first-ever Red Dirt BBQ and Music Festival featuring the Randy Rogers Band and some of the best BBQ in Texas.
More than 4,000 people swarmed Tyler's historic downtown, ready to eat and drink. The event was completely sold out, with people traveling into East Texas from as far as New Mexico and Connecticut.
"We have combined the best BBQ and the best music," said Johnny Lathrop, Regional Vice President of Townsquare Media, sponsor of the festival alongside Tyler Ford.
Fifteen BBQ vendors from across the state traveled to East Texas to serve samples of their famous meats. From ribs, to brisket, to sausage, the festival had something for everyone and attendees walked booth-to-booth sampling their favorites.
After the cookout, some of the best red dirt country music stars took to the stage. Including the Randy Rogers Band, Whiskey Myers, The Bigsbys, and Green River Ordinance.
"There's A lot of people that love red dirt music," Lathrop said. "A lot of people that love barbeque, we combine the two and you have a great combination for success."
Tickets for the festival sold out three days prior to Saturday's event.
"We're blown away," Lathrop said. "We've been working on this for five years so this is a dream come true for all of us."
