Tyler, Texas (KETK) — The Robert E. Lee Red Raider marching band entertained the streets of Tyler for their Third Annual March-a-thon.
“The kids have gone out for weeks to ask for donations and sponsors,” says R.E.L. band director, Benjamin Berry.
Money raised will help pay for the bands expenses, including the spring trip, band banquet and competitive marching season.
The award-winning band performed 11 concerts for Tyler residents.
A $100 donation earned East Texans a private performance.
The McCooke family tells KETK, the concert was the highlight of their weekend.
“This was so much fun and getting is ready for football season at Robert E. Lee and we are glad to support the band,” says Deborah McCooke.
“We are very supportive of the music world in Tyler and so thankful that they came down to Woodland Hills,” says Peter McCooke.
The Hall family says, the concert was something special.
“We really have looked forward to it and waited a good while, but once they got here it was really wonderful, “ says Fran Hall.
Lee’s march-a-thon is the band’s largest fundraiser. Coordinators tell KETK, they've received generous donations.
Students raised more than $20,000 for last year’s march-a-thon. Following the march, lunch was served and the Red Raider’s performed the ‘2012 Ole’ at the Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Tyler for supporters.
