TYLER - Tornadoes can happen any where, almost any time, and can leave you homeless or worse, kill you. Cut almost like a knife straight through the central United States is Tornado Alley. After recent storms in Missouri and Alabama, some are looking to expand the boundaries.

"Some of the shifting can be basically due to small scale disruptions in the pattern and making tornadoes form a little bit in other areas."

Officials say unlike state borders, Tornado Alley actually fluctuates, depending on the storms from year to year or even season to season.

"Everybody knows severe weather happens in the spring, however we somewhat have a severe weather season in the fall and I think that maybe what were seeing with Tornado Alley as well."

While Tornado Alley may be expanding, here in East Texas we deal with a some what different phenomenon, Dixie Alley.

"The Dixie Alley, East Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, came about with that late winter tornado threat and it's kind of an off shoot of Tornado Alley."

Reports say the top 25 deadliest U.S. tornadoes, have spread over 15 states causing massive damage and killing thousands of people. However, if you think you're in the clear, officials say there is one thing to always keep in mind.

"Tornadoes can happen any time of year it doesn't just have to happen in the spring and they can happen anywhere their have been."
