Remote-controlled rock crawlers become hit with East Texas group
Gilmer — Clay Carter said Sunday that he quit his full-time job two years ago to focus on his passion of building remote controlled “rock crawlers.”
Instead of only building the remote-controlled vehicles for himself, he now builds them for people worldwide. Carter owns Carter Fab & Machine, LLC in Gladewater, where he has become well known for his ability to construct quality machines.
“The scary part was the initial start up,” he said. “Having to buy equipment and machines. But I’ve got product in every country and every state right now.”
One country where Carter said he has built and shipped custom crawlers is Afghanistan— with soldiers using them as a stress relief tool.
