(KETK) — A nationwide jobs site listed an East Texas industry as having the bleakest outlook in America.
CareerCast named lumberjack as the worst job of 2014. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates a 9% drop in logging positions by 2022.
The report stated the loss of lumberjack jobs can be contributed to the industry becoming increasingly modernized by technology, as well as a high risk factor of getting injured with low pay. The average lumberjack makes $24,340 a year.
According to a 2007 Texas A&M Forest Service study, 25 of 43 East Texas counties, wood based industries were one of the top two largest manufacturing employers. The industry also dumps $12 billion into the East Texas economy ever year (2007).
Mathematician was projected as the top job for 2014. Their average salary checked in at $101,360.
