Retirees go back to work

TYLER - A lot of older Americans are saying bye-bye retirement and hello workforce thanks to the economy.
Now-a-days many retirees aren't sitting on a beach somewhere or spending their day out on a golf course, but instead working on their resumes and applying for a job. During these tough economic times many older American's retirement savings are in shambles, forcing many to head back to work.
The problem is these older Americans are trying to find a job in what experts call the worst job market in almost three decades. According to the Bureau of Statistics, nearly 5% of workers ages 55 and older were unemployed in December. This is a 58 percent jump from the previous year.
But despite some hurdles these retirees are landing jobs. If you’re retired, but are currently looking for a job, below are some tips for you from an article in the Wall Street Journal.
·The experts’ first tip is for these mature jobseekers to make the most expertise gathered in their former occupations rather than try to move in a new direction
·Follow your personal interests (If you like reading, for instance, a job in a bookstore may be good for you)
·Get back in the workforce as quickly as possible so would-be employers won’t be concerned that some of your skills are lost
·Get up to date with the latest developments in technology and perhaps in your field before retirement.
·Importantly, you shouldn’t overlook implications that returning to work will have for an existing age pension.
·Take advantage of your existing network of contacts, such as former bosses and clients to get job leads.
