He's the head coach of the John Tyler Lions.

Back in the late '90s, he played for JT.

Ricklan Holmes signed with Oklahoma State back then.

He told KETK Sports Director Danny Elzner that signing day meant a lot to him.

"It meant I was going to be able to continue playing football and further my education. I put myself in a great situation to handle my business in academics and athletics.  I had two head coaches. I ended up with Les Miles. At defensive coordinator I ended up with Rob Ryan. You learn how to deal with different people, do what they need you to do to be successful, building that program up.  Everyday I preach to the kids. It's about putting yourself in position to get your education. That's the most important thing to me. There is a school for everybody. You have to be willing to put yourself in position to go to that school and have them pay for your education. Just to see those young men go on to play college football, be a student-athlete, pursue whatever goals they have, play in the NFL, graduate and start their own business or work for a Fortune 500 company. Either way I'm going to be very proud of them."
