Just when shooters thought our long national nightmare was over.
We’ve endured the panic buying that made both guns and ammunition scarce and expensive, and the conspiracy theories about what was behind it.
This is the most popular gun in the world.
Not this particular one, but this caliber. This is a .22 and for most of us who grew up with guns, whenever you outgrew your Red Ryder, you moved up to a .22.
It is still the most popular round in the world. And now, it’s the most scarce.
And there’s not big Homeland Security plot involved here, just human nature.
“Well, because it’s hard and difficult to get,” says Steve Prater of Lock & Load, “when people do have an opportunity to purchase it, they get more than they used to. And that’s part of the problem there.”
When you shoot a higher caliber, you usually get a box of 50 rounds, and pay a pretty penny for it.
So the instinct is to be frugal with your practice.
But even at inflated prices, .22’s are cheap. It’s like shooting BB’s.
So, we go nuts.
So for now, supply will just have to catch up to demand.
