Robert E. Lee coach steps down

TYLER — Robert E. Lee Head Football Coach, Mike Owens, turned in his retirement papers Wednesday. District officials say this is his last school year with the district.
TISD making the announcement just before a public meeting on changes in personnel Thursday night.
Owens won a state championship for Lee back in 2004.
In his 15 years as the Tyler Lee coach, Owens has led the red raiders to the playoffs 13 times.
He has coached players like Green Bay Packers' Matt Flynn.

In January of this year, TISD Athletic Director Danny Long Announced he was stepping down from his position.
When KETK talked to Owens then, he told us on camera he was very interested in becoming the new A.D.
But tonight TISD is expected to introduce Rod Kaspar as the new A.D. during a meeting.
