Rodeo Austin selects champion steer at Capitol

AUSTIN, Texas — As 12 prime head of cattle were getting primped for the Rodeo Austin 75th Anniversary Grand Champion Steer Selection at the Capitol Thursday afternoon, a German visitor named Andreas wandered by and asked what the deal was.
Steer selection, he was told as a dance mix of "Ghost Riders in the Sky" warmed up the crowd. Livestock judging. Part of the rodeo.
"Rodeo — is that like bull riding?" he asked.
It can be. Or it can be calf roping or, in this instance, livestock judging.
"Oh, that is why they are polishing them like your best friend the car, but this time it is a bull," he said.
