Washington (CNN) -- Mitt Romney's campaign has bought almost $2 million worth of ad time for a spot defending the candidate's record as governor of Massachusetts, according to a Republican media tracking source.

The campaign has refused to discuss where it is placing its commercials or the amount of its buys.

Team Romney has expanded the states where it is placing its general election ads.

For the first time it is buying time for this ad, called "Strong Leadership" in Colorado, New Hampshire and Nevada.

Here is the breakdown of the $1.9 million buy running through Tuesday by state:

- Colorado - $216,000.

- Iowa - $310,000

- New Hampshire - $82,000

- Nevada - $113,000

- Ohio - $823,000

- Virginia - $383,000

The Obama team has been up in these as well as other states in the last month.

As for the president's re-election ad buys, it has purchased $2.26 million for its latest spot touting its job record that is on top of the $12 million buy for its commercial attacking Romney's Massachusetts record.
