The cost of natural gas is near an all time low.
And many people, most notably legendary Oilman T. Boone Pickens, have argued that we should save oil for things for which there is no substitute, and power our cars with natural gas.
OK, fair enough.
So, exactly how do you do that?
This looks like an ordinary auto repair shop in any city. But this is Clean Fuel Conversions. Cars drive in here dirty, and drive out clean.
Ronnie Oldham is the owner of the shop, and says, compressed natural gas is the only way to go.
And it works for everything from big rigs, to transit buses, to his personal Ford Focus.
The system is remarkably simple, though still a bit expensive.
The biggest change you’ll notice, particularly if you want the capability of running on gasoline when you need to, is the tank.
Think of it as a giant scuba tank, and the challenge is finding a place for it. On pickup trucks, its easier. Just put in a fake tool box in the back.
Owners love it…
This church transit bus had 300,000 miles on it when the conversion was made.
Under the hood, Oldham showed us the work involved.
The upside is tempting. Your vehicle burns cleaner, both out the tailpipe and under the hood.l natural gas leaves no carbon deposits inside the engine, so engine life is much longer.
The US has ample natural gas supplies for a century or more. And in essence, that could make us energy independent, a goal every politician says he wants.
Fueling up is simple as Oldham demonstrated at the Austin Airport. You fill just like at a gas station, and the only thing that is different is the price.
Ok, so, what’s the downside? That can be summed up easily…availability.
Oldham showed us a website with all the natural gas refueling stations in the country. In Texas and Oklahoma, you’re in pretty good shape. Go to North Dakota? Good luck.
Right now, the conversion cost is fairly high, but as more vehicles hit the road, that will come down, like any new technology.
So for the moment, it makes the most sense for commercial vehicles that log a lot of miles.
But for personal cars and trucks, it’s starting to make a lot of sense to a lot of people.

I can say that it is a nice concept to design that cars are going to run on natural gas. As we are telling here natural gas is good for our car but if we are not going to minimize the use of our cars then it will also not the remedies for us. So, its better to minimize the use of car and also to maintain our car like we have to repair our car from good repair centers for its better functioning whenever required. I have given a link below for good repair centers.

Mostly in case of gas car the possibility of maintenance is more than the fuel car and electric car. Natural gas is the future of energy. It is replacing dirty, dangerous, expensive coal and nuclear plants. It is producing the electricity for electric cars. It will directly fuel pickup trucks, vans, buses, long haul trucks, dump trucks, locomotives, aircraft, ships etc. It needs more care if you have a gas car because you need to fill your tank time to time otherwise you may face problem.

Gas cars have a limitation in market but it financially quite sound than fuel gas. Gas is the common factor for make running the gas car. For this gas filling stations are very essential. But the gas stations are limited in all over the world. Gas always be natural, it has no doubt. Many of people don't prefer to go for a gas car due to lack of its filling station and mileage problem. The service part of the gas cars are limited.

It is the time to save oil by using other form of fuels in vehicle. It might be natural gas, which can run your vehicle quite easily. Natural gas are better than the fuel or petrol and diesel in terms of saving environment. It will be better for your vehicle as well as not that much it pollute the air.

if it's so great, why hasn't the government forced the car makers to equip engines to run on it? HUH?

AS ALWAYS-"WE AS AMERICANS DO NOT SLOW DOWN ENOUGH TO THINK AND FIND A -LONG TERM SOLUTION TO OUR FOSSIL FUELS SITUATION. WERE NOT THE FIRST TO BE HERE-AFTER WWII MOST OF EASTERN EUROPE DID NOT HAVE READILY AVAILABLE OIL-BUT WHAT THEY DID HAVE WAS LOTS OF NATURAL GAS-AND THATS WHAT THEY HAVE BEEN USING SINCE! WAKE UP AMERICA! STOP THE INSANITY! WE HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH CNG TO FUEL US INTO THE NEXT 300 YEARS. NOTHING NEW GUY'S! THE TECHNOLOGY HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME!

Right now you're riding on a Molotov cocktail that, many times, is made of plastic.

Natural gas is the future of energy. It is replacing dirty, dangerous, expensive coal and nuclear plants. It is producing the electricity for electric cars. You forgot to mention the fact that the passengers will be sitting on a tank that has 3000 psi pressure in it.

Hey Howard, the Tanks are actually 3600psi in America, but the tanks are tougher than the vehicle they are in, there is no Oxygen in the tank, so it can't explode. The tanks have safety vent valves that will vent to the atmosphere if damaged. CNG (methane gas) is lighter than air.. it wants to climb 25,000 miles straight up as fast as it can. CNG does not pool on the ground like petro, diesel or LP... Only 2 fires have been noted in America because idiots were using damaged tanks...

I once pulled a guy out of a big steel car that was totally engulfed in flames. I couldn't get to the driver, and he burned to death in front of me. That gasoline tank wasn't very safe, was it?

A full tank of CNG will vent up and away in about 15 seconds if the tank is ruptured... the pressure is SO HIGH, that if the safety valve releases, the high pressure will actually blow out any fire in the area!.. The fuel can only burn in 7-15% range of fuel to air ratio... making it the safest vehicle fuel on the planet!. even if there is a fire, its just a big POOF and the fire is gone.... but there is NO record ANYWHERE of a TANK actually exploding, more facts at CNGPUMP . com
