HENDERSON — Voters in Rusk County will have the choice of two experienced lawmen with strong local ties when they select the Republican nominee for Rusk County sheriff.

Darryl Norris and Jeff Price were the two top vote-getters in the six-man Republican primary in May. The party candidate will be decided in a runoff election July 31. The winner will then face Democrat Oscar Still in the November general election.

Sheriff Danny Pirtle is not seeking re-election due to health problems.

Norris, 46, is a former Rusk County chief deputy who works as an equipment operator for the county.

Price, 48, is a lieutenant with the Henderson Police Department.

Norris, who worked for the sheriff’s department in a variety of positions from 1988 to 2009, said he believes his experience with the department will benefit him if he becomes the Republican nominee and, ultimately, the officeholder.
