Lt. David Marshall with the Rusk County Sheriff's Office received his long-awaited lung transplant Sunday night.
As of about 3 p.m. on Monday, Marshall was out of the operating room and stabilized. Doctors are now closely monitoring the lieutenant.
The department has been holding fundraisers to help the lieutenant's family with the costs involved, including a recent blood drive to honor him. Those wishing to still help the lieutenant can buy a burger at the Bobby's Food Center parking lot on Highway 79 North on May 23. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
All donations of food, drinks, condiments or monetary donations can also be made to Henderson Police Department Citizens Police Academy. An account has been set up at Henderson Federal Savings Bank to receive donations.
KETK will continue to update you on the lieutenant's condition as soon as that information is available.
