House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), whose budget plan recently passed the House in a party-line vote, says his faith contributed in shaping the proposal, which he says is consistent with Catholic teachings.

“A person’s faith is central to how they conduct themselves in public and in private,” Ryan said in an interview released on Tuesday by the Christian Broadcasting Network.

I agree that using one's faith for political gain is improper. But the term "death panels" was coined to describe what will happen under socialized medicine - a committee of politicians charged with deciding who gets continued treatment and who gets cut off due to age, risk factors, cost of treatment, etc. These decisions should always be up to the patient and doctor, not the government.

This is riotously laughable!! That a Catholic would come up with a budget that sets up "death panels":for those who can't buy insurance...that leaves the very old and the very young "on your own" for health care and vital social services....trying to use his "faith" as a catalyst for a slash-and-burn budget is a disgrace and a black mark on ryan...I thought the Catholic church cared for the poor, but apparently it doesn't deep down...all these Catholic men are dangerous to/for this country!
