Sadler's Restaurant in J'ville bringing in local farmers

Taylor Seeton is not your typical 15-year-old...the young East Texan is passionate...about produce.

"I just love farming...that's all I can say about it," Seeton said.

And Sadler's Restaurant has given him and other local growers a place to show their stuff -- every Wednesday night.

"I've got tomatoes, plums, peaches, green beans, peppers, squash, onions...all kinds," Seeton said.

Sadler's owner Rob Gowin tells KETK he was thinking to himself what he could do on Wednesay nights at Sadler's...and since farmers often sell produce on Saturdays...hey, why not on Wednesday?

He says it benefits the restaurant as well.

"The end of the first night, I looked at one of my farmers and said, 'You know I tricked you...'  He said 'What are you talking about?'  I said 'You just brought me my vegetables for the weekend," Gowin said.

And on his menus, he makes sure to give credit where credit is due.

"I guess one of the new movements in the world is farm to table.  And on my menu, you'll see the green beans came from the Seeton's farm, the tomatoes came from Pappa Skinny's farm..." Gowin said.

Among the different East Texas farmers set up at Sadlers...is KETK's old friend J.D. Collett with the Andrews Center.  He helps out homeless veterans with PTSD.

They build furniture, raise chickens...and yes..they even grow produce.

"Whether it's raising produce, gathering eggs or out picking peas...we give them hope and we instill hope and purpose in them," Collett said.

Gowin tells KETK, this is the third week of the produce sales on their back patio...he says the public is loving it.

He's hoping it will become an East Texas tradition.
