NACOGDOCHES COUNTY — A document approved earlier this week by Nacogdoches County commissioners allows the Texas Department of Transportation to move one step closer to making state Hwy. 204 a little wider and a little safer.
Commissioners accepted TxDOT's proposal for widening Hwy. 204 from .5 mile west of FM 1648 to .7 mile west of CR 817. The stretch of highway includes the entrance to Southern Power's Nacogdoches Generating Facility near Sacul.
"They're also going to add 18 inches on each side of Hwy. 204 west of CR 817 and just west of CR 1648, which is really going to enhance 204 with as much truck traffic that there's going to be," Williamson said, referencing the increased transportation that will be associated with the biomass plant. "It's going to be a tremendous help."
County Judge Joe English expressed the county's appreciation to state Sen. Robert Nichols for his assistance in working with TxDOT to move the project forward and free up money to fund it.
