Santorum's Slide

Did Rick Santorum peak too soon?

He still could win the Michigan primary next Tuesday, but Santorum's lead in the polls is narrowing.

He's reminding voters of his strict Catholic Conservatism, blasting public education, birth control, and what he called Barack Obama's "theology", which he later defined as the president's environmental policies.

"Look at look at this ideology of the earth, if you will, and rise it above the interest of man," he said.

Santorum says God gave man dominion over Earth.

"I refer to global warming as not climate science, but political science," he explained.

Mitt Romney, meanwhile, has to win Michigan, his home state.

Like Santorum, he's pointing to rising gas prices and pointing a finger at the president.

"And I will also get that Keystone Pipeline," he said. "One of the first no brainer decisions a
president has ever had to make is whether we should bring in oil from Canada. The answer is so obviously yes, how he could say no is remarkable to me."

Donald Trump said today he might get back in the race if Romney can't beat Santorum.

Aides to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie say Republicans are begging him to get in and
aides to Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels say the same.

Republican insiders believe Rick Santorum cannot beat President Obama, so all eyes are on Mitt Romney.

Can he beat Santorum?

Political pros still bet the answer is yes in part because Romney and his Super PAC are unleashing the kind of ad campaign Santorum can't afford.
