The Kilgore College Theatre Department has canceled Saturday night’s performance of “The Father” due to a scheduling conflict.

The play is still set for 7:30 p.m. tonight, and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 4, in Van Cliburn Auditorium.

The play, directed by theatre instructor Kathy Barber, tells the story of the struggle between a husband and wife to possess their daughter.

The father, a military hero, scientist and free-thinker, denies his wife of any say-so over her daughter’s future by the laws of the day (1880’s).

Once cornered, the wife sets out to have her husband declared insane in order to gain custody of her daughter.

“This play is an excellent example of early Realism/Naturalism when plays began to address social issues brought on by the Industrial Revolution and the desire to see theatre that reflected the times,” Barber said.

General admission tickets are $6 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for KC students with a student ID.

Late arrivals and children under the age of six will not be admitted.

The play does not contain any objectionable material, according to Barber, but the content of the play is intended for mature adults.

The box office will open one hour prior to each performance.

For reservations, call Barber at 903-983-8126 or e-mail her: kbarber@kilgore.edu.

Reserved tickets may be picked up at the Will Call table beginning one hour before curtain on the day of the performance.
