Scammers target job-seekers in Nacogdoches
Nacogdoches, TX (KETK) — Several people have fallen victim to a scam targeting job-seekers in Nacogdoches.
Sgt. Greg Sowell with the Nacogdoches Police Department tells KETK that several people applied for jobs through the Texas Workforce Commission, and were later contacted by individuals claiming to be with a company looking to hire new employees.
The caller would require the job seeker to purchase a money card, which they claimed would cover training fees for employment. They told the potential employees that they would be reimbursed for the up-front cost later.
The scammers told the job-seekers to appear at a meeting to be held in Nacogdoches. However, when they arrived at the agreed-upon time, nobody with the alleged "company" showed up to meet them.
"This all happened over the past week, and the it is still under investigation," Sgt. Sowell said.
