Schools prepare for President's LIVE speech

September 8, 2009 - 11:06am

ARLINGTON, Virginia - President Barack Obama speaks to students across the country today, telling them about the importance of staying in school.

We take a LIVE look at the speech at a high school in Arlington, Virginia.

Many people have criticized the speech in the past week, saying it's an improper use of school time. Some say it delivers a socialist agenda to children.

Others say there's nothing wrong with the President talking to kids about education. They want their children to see the speech.

Former First Lady Laura Bush says she supports the President's speech. Bush says there is a place for the President to encourage kids to stay in school.

We'll have a full recap of the speech from Longview High School, coming up tonight at 5 and 6 p.m.

The President gave a speech last night that was exciting, stirring, and unapologetic in its defense of government activism. The speech was about health care, as it's turning into a pitched battle, and he reached across both sides of the aisle to find solutions – and he acknowledged that he wasn't the first to try to tackle this problem, but he was determined to be the last as he doesn't want to see Americans need payday advances for cold medicine. It's all over the internet, so you can see the President's speech last night without needing payday cash advances.
