HOUSTON, TX — The Texas Education Agency has awarded academic ratings to the state’s public schools for 2013. As in the past, the formula is based mostly on standardized test scores but the system has gotten more complex. Schools either were rated “met standard” (the equivalent of passing) or “improvement required.” Schools also could earn distinctions for performance in reading or math or for making significant progress on state exams since last year.
