GLADEWATER — A pick-up truck rams into a police officer as the cop stops another car.
Gladewater police provided this dash cam video of the stop last night.
In the video, you can see the officer stops a car on Highway 271 near the Sabine river.
As he's approaching the driver, a pick-up truck stays on the right lane and hits the officer.
The driver of the stopped car calls 9-1-1 and that driver of the pickup eventually makes his way back.
Officer Mike Johnson is now out of the hospital with several injuries, including a broken foot
Officers today urge drivers to keep a close eye on the road.
"We just want everybody to be safe and understand how very important it is to watch out for not only law enforcment but all emergency service workers. and always try to give them breathing room, give them a break and slow down and watch for anything that might could happen," said Chief Ferrel Alexander of the Gladewater Police Department.
Troopers have arrested Eugene Jones, the driver of the pick-up. He's charged with passing an emergency vehicle and serious bodily injury. They say alcohol doesn't appear to be involved. Jones is now out on bond.
