Senate Pushes Healthcare Bill to Debate
November 21, 2009 - 9:03pm
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Sweeping health care legislation has cleared its first hurdle in the Senate on a party-line vote.
In a rare Saturday session, Democrats and Republicans were debating all day about Saturday night's vote.
Around 7p.m. tonight the Senate passed the measure 60-39.
The measure is designed to extend coverage to an estimated 31 million Americans who lack it and crack down on insurance industry practices that deny benefits, but Republicans say it's just not good for the country.
