Tyler, TX — This is the season of giving and spending time with the ones you love and care about it.
Many people have family and friends in nursing homes. Some nursing home residents may feel forgotten or emotional this time of year.
And some are enjoying the holiday spirit.
KETK visited a nursing home in Tyler, Reunion Inn Assisted Living, to see how residents are spending the holidays.
KETK met Louie Carroll, 81, of Tyler. He's been living in his new home less than two months. Carroll says he has a big family.
Carroll tells KETK, what he loves most about the holidays,
"Loving one another, more than anything, celebration...it's a good time to be able to celebrate the reason for the season."
He lost his wife in 2007, he was married for 58 years. He worked for Brookshire's grocery in his younger years.
He shared many holiday memories with KETK, one memory that put a smile on his face, was when his wife was alive and he would have big holidays dinners with his family.
Carroll says this time of year is the best time of year.
He's blessed to have his family visit often. His grandson, Chris, visits him a lot. Seeing Carroll and his grandson together, you can see how much love is there within the family.
He's keeping busy during the holidays. He's been attending church and community events.
Carroll will be spending the holidays with his daughter and the rest of the family.
