Services today for Quitman soldier who died in Afghanistan
QUITMAN, TX — Thousands of East Texans came out to bid farewell to a fallen serviceman, lining the route of a motorcade carrying the body of Army Sgt. Joshua David Powell.
Powell, 28, of Quitman was killed in Laghman province, Afghanistan. He and three colleagues died from a blast by a homemade bomb when his unit was on patrol, Army officials said.
Funeral services are at 9 a.m. today at Lake Fork Baptist Church Funeral in Alba. Private graveside services will be held at Rock Hill Cemetery later.
