With ponytails flying and smiles flashing, 80 teenage girls danced and high-kicked Wednesday across the Rangerette Gymnasium at Kilgore College, hoping to perfect routines that will land them a place on the fabled Rangerette drill team.

Tryouts are scheduled today, with selections announced Friday, said Director Dana Blair.

About 35 new girls will be selected to join the 35 returning sophomore Rangerettes.

“They’re all very talented, so it’s hard to make a decision,” Blair said. “The girls who try out for the Kilgore Rangerettes represent the best of the best from high school drill teams and are eager to be part of the Rangerettes, which is such a prestigious organization .”

Among the Rangerette hopefuls are three 2012 graduates from local high schools: Heather Prince of Hallsville, Kelsey West of Marshall and Kevelyn Jones of Longview. Each is hoping to fulfill a dream by landing a spot on the team.
