SFA men's basketball looking to end their season in the big dance

Monday, March 10, 2014 - 5:41pm

The SFA Lumberjacks men's basketball team has had one of the best season's in all of college basketball.

But if they don't win their conference tournament later this week, more than likely, they won't be invited to the big dance.

Only two NCAA teams can claim an undefeated conference championship this season. the number one ranked Florida Gators, the number two ranked Wichita state Shockers, along with the Lumberjacks.

"Very proud of them and a very deserving group, they're high character kids and they're very, very hard working," said head coach Brad Underwood.

With only two losses this year, one of which came in a dog fight in Austin against the Texas Longhorns, the Jacks are currently on a 26 game winning streak.

"Some nights we haven't shot it well, we've had nights that we haven't guarded well, and yet we've found other areas, other ways to win," said Underwood.

One key part of this success, is leading scorer and conference player of the year, Jacob Parker.

"Everyday out here is a grind, and to see him rewarded for that it's big time," said forward Thomas Walkup.

"There's two other guys on the team that could have very easily won the award, so it's very humbling," said Parker.

SFA has earned a bye, and will play their first game of the Southland Conference Tournament this Friday at 5 PM in Katy.

The championship game, and possible send off to March Madness, will be on Saturday.
