Sheriff says removing fake hair is Gregg County Jail policy

Inmates entering the Gregg County Jail can expect to remove all clothing, shoes, jewelry and hair — if it’s fake.

Male and female inmates are required to relinquish weaves, wigs and toupees before being placed in a general population housing area, Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano said this past week, citing the standard operating procedures for his facility.

Branden Johnson, president of the Longview chapter of the NAACP, said earlier this month he has heard complaints about the jail’s policy but only from anonymous sources.
