TYLER — Our Congressman Louie Gohmert is someone who believes gun control is not the answer.
This weekend he made a comment on Fox News about the principal of Sandy Hook that's getting a lot of attention and making people think.
"I wish to God that she'd have had an M-4 in her office, locked up, so when she heard gunshots she'd pull it out. She wouldn't have to lunge heroically with nothing in her hands. She takes him out, she takes his head off, before he can kill those precious kids," Gohmert said.
His comments suggest allowing a faculty member or members to have guns on campus in some capacity.
We asked East Texans how they feel about the idea.
Shirlee Mckay tells KETK she doesn't believe every teacher needs to have one, but at least one faculty member or a campus officer.
"I think that would be great. I don't think that would be a problem, I mean it would have to be something that, again, you would have to have proper training for but I believe it wouldn't hurt," Mckay said.
Lorie Parsons has a similar feeling.
"Well I don't think that every classroom should have a gun. I think that there should be one entrance to the school, no other way in and I think that it would be good if someone was armed in the office if there was some type of protection," Parson said.
East Texans weighed in on KETK's Facebook page as well.
Cody writes "The principal? No. But there should have been an armed police officer on the premises contracted as a student resource officer. Every school I have ever been to has had at least one of those."
Charles writes "I teach school staff every day to properly and safely restrain students that are out of control. It can not be done with firearms involved. We are not talking about peace officers, we are talking about 60 year old women that are trained to break down a sentence."

What about arming each teacher with a stun gun?
Israel has teachers that are armed so it is done.
Sadly alot of people have the stereotype that everyone is a klutz except the cops and that no one can be trained to be effective in dealing with nuts with guns. Yet there have been at least FOUR incidences where teachers and civilians have used guns to stop school shootings in the U.S.
It can has HAS been done.
I think something must be done...In Isreal the teachers are armed and as it is things are starting to become as violent here as there...at least there they are expecting trouble...we are so settled in our ways that we can't see whats right in front of our face. Therefor maybe we need to seek preparedness....and most suredly please put God back in school so the children grow up with the ability to know right and wrong.
