Should Texas lawmakers cut funds for community colleges?
TEXAS-- In the midst of a $25 billion budget shortfall, one idea suggestion could put some Texas community colleges on the chopping block.
Lawmakers are looking at cutting funds and grants to state community colleges, and they are considering closing four community colleges across the state--including Ranger and Odessa colleges.
The state's recommendations come with even deeper cuts like taking away financial aid for future college students.
East Texas Representative Chuck Hopson--who attended a community college-- says he and several other lawmakers are against the cuts, and they will try their best to keep this proposal off of the final budget draft.
