State Rep. David Simpson said Monday afternoon he hopes the state is financially responsible and eliminates overspending.

Simpson highlighted several items from the 83rd Legislative Session, including the issue of overspending in Texas, during a town hall meeting at the Kilgore Public Library.

“We’re spending our grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s money,” the Longview Republican said. “And at some point in time, someone is going to have to pay the bill. So I hope conservatives will hold the line and not increase the debt.”

Simpson said the most recent legislature approved $20.8 billion in spending — 25 percent more than the 82nd legislature.
