Skywarn spotter training Thursday night

(KETK) - Tyler, Tx — The National Weather Service office in Shreveport, LA will be conducting a Skywarn Spotter Training session this evening at Shiloh Road Church of Christ. The church is located at 1801 Shiloh Road, Tyler, TX 75703. The event begins tonight at 6PM.
The training is open to anyone who has an interest in public service and access to communication. Examples of volunteers include Police, Fire, EMS personnel, utility workers, and other private citizens. Even folks who are associated with schools, churches, and hospitals are encouraged to become a spotter.
Skywarn spotter program started in the 1970s. With the help of these volunteers, advancements in Doppler radar, and other data, the National Weather Service has been able to issue more effective and timely warnings.
There are two sessions being offered this evening: basic and advanced. Both sessions are free and last about one hour each. The sessions are conducted by Meteorologists from the NWS at Shreveport.

- The fundamentals of storm structure
- Severe weather features
- How to report information
- Severe weather safety
