TYLER — We all have heard of sleep walking ... but what about sleep texting?
It's a new phenomenon that apparently does exist; where people send incoherent text messages to friends and family in the middle of the night without knowing it.
"It's mostly attributed to a couple of factors: number one, the increased awareness of sleep disorders and the various problems or parasomnias that can happen while people are sleeping, increased stress and lack of sleep," said John Truitt, CEO of Simple Sleep Services.
Truitt says there have been reports of sleep emailing, and sleep phone calls as well.
In all cases, the messages usually don't make sense.
"They are generally incoherent and people will receive the message kind of out of the blue and respond back, then not realize the next day that they sent the message until the person responds back with something that ...doesn't make any sense," he said.
Truitt says if you are concerned you may be sleep texting or have another form of sleep disorder, contact a board certified sleep physician to get tested.
