Department of Public Safety officials released the names of one person whom was killed and another severely injured in a high-speed Smith County chase over the weekend.

According to DPS Trooper Jean Dark, the driver, Christopher Blake Lucas, 26, was killed Saturday evening in a chase off FM 346 near County Road 188 in Bullard. A passenger, Travis Allen Holley, 24, is currently in good condition at a local hospital.

The incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. when troopers attempted to pull the pair over for a traffic signal violation and a chase ensued. The pursuit lasted for several minutes until a a set of spike strips popped three tires. The driver kept going and eventually wrecked out, flipping the vehicle multiple times.

Authorities found 4 pounds of marijuana inside the vehicle.

Upon his release, Holley will be booked into the Smith County Jail on evading arrest and possession of marijuana.
