Smith County, TX —
Smith County has lifted it's burn ban.
The decision was made during the regularly scheduled commisioners court meeting on Tuesday morning.
Smith County joins many other East Texas counties that have decided to lift their bans this week, following last week's heavy rains. The KDBI (drought index) is now below 300; down from the 700+ points last week.
“We are excited to lift the burn ban today and I certainly hope we continue to see more rain in the near future;” Smith County Judge Joel Baker said.
Smith County Fire Marshal Jim Seaton still urges extreme caution as people resume burning household trash and other unrestricted items.
