SMITH COUNTY — Smith County Fire officials say the fire near Chapel Hill began with a trash pile.

Dozens of cars are hidden deep within the woods at the scene and have been destroyed by the flames.

Investigators are now looking into the involvement of those vehicles.

No injuries have been reported. 

Smith County Fire Marshal officials say the fire on County Road 2908 is burning about 9 to 10 acres, but it is contained.

Firefighters were able to keep the fire away from a nearby trailer house out.

Officials believe the blaze started as a rekindle from last night when the wind picked up today and reignited the burning.

Fire Marshal officials believe the fire near Chapel Hill was possibly started by someone burning a car Sunday. They warn people should avoid burning unapproved items.

KETK has confirmed a second, larger grass fire is ablaze on County Road 235 near Chapel Hill.

Officials with the Flint-Gresham Fire Department says the Chapel Hill Fire Department and the Texas Forest Service are on the scene battling a 40-acre fire.

KETK crews on scene report about 5 acres are on fire on County Rd. 2908 near County Rd. 384.

Officials say it is possibly a rekindle from Sunday.

The fire is only about a quarter mile from a home.
