Lawmakers say checkpoints are an invasion of privacy
Austin — The Houston Chronicle is reporting; travelers have grown accustomed to airport security searches, and maybe it's time for Texas motorists to endure sobriety checkpoints to ensure public safety, state lawmakers were told Monday.
For several years, safety advocates and law enforcement officials have pushed for sobriety checkpoints, allowed in 38 other states. But many lawmakers and others say checkpoints are an invasion of privacy.
