FORT HOOD, Texas (AP) - A staff sergeant says a friend who
pulled her to safety subsequently died as gunfire erupted around
them during last year's deadly rampage at Fort Hood.

Staff Sgt. Joy Clark has told a military court that she called
the names of two friends who were laying either side of her on the
ground, then checked for a pulse, and discovered both had been
fatally shot in the Nov. 5 attack.
 

Clark testified Thursday at an Article 32 hearing to determine
if Maj. Nidal Hasan should stand trial in the shootings at the
Texas Army base.
 

The 40-year-old Hasan is charged with 13 counts of premeditated
murder and 32 counts of attempted premeditated murder.
