Some terrorists being allowed to fly
January 4, 2010 - 7:41pm
TYLER-Startling statistics from the Homeland Security Department. According to the report, the department will only be catching 29 percent of travelers committing major criminal violations. And this news has many people outraged.
It doesn't sit well with many Americans. To them it looks like Homeland Security is setting their goals extremely low for 2010.
According to a report, only one in four criminals will be caught.
That means almost 75 percent of major violators who fly into this country on an international flight will be able to enter the country.
Homeland Security defines a major violator as someone who commits a serious criminal activity, including possession of narcotics, smuggling of prohibited products, human smuggling, weapons possession, fraudulent U.S. document, and other offenses serious enough to result in arrest.
"Terrorists are smart, they know where security is good," Senator Charles Schumer of New York said. "They know where security is lax and of course they see the weakest link."
And they expect most of the busts to be those smuggling dope.
But since the Christmas Day incident in Detroit, full body-scanners have been installed at many major airports in the U.S. and around the world to help combat terrorists.
"We've recognized that there are new forms of weapons that are being used by Al Qaeda, so we have to respond accordingly," British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said.
But to make matters even worse, one British expert in technology is warning that the explosive device smuggled in the clothing of the Detroit bomb suspect would not have been detected by body-scanners.
DHS officials also said that some individuals whose names are discovered on law enforcement databases before they board international flights to the U.S. are allowed to board the planes and fly here. After they arrive are they then searched, leaving many to wonder why this procedure isn't reversed.

3 months agoIf this is the best that Homeland Security can offer to the American people, then disband this expensive, worthless agency and hire some bounty hunters. Matter of fact, that just might be a better idea.
