George Soros is backing California's Proposition 19.

If passed, it will legalize marijuana in the state.

Soros voiced support of the proposition in the Wall Street Journal. He claims that the desire to keep marijuana illegal is rooted in racial prejudice against Mexican immigrants.

Soros says he is planning to make a "significant contribution" in the effort to legalize the drug.
