This weekend orchid collectors from all over Louisiana, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas gathered at the Southwest Regional Orchid Show and Sale. Almost thirty orchid displays were featured; some from Tyler's very own Central East Texas Orchid Society.

KETK spoke with the president of Central East Texas Orchid Society, Max Nash, who tells us "We have displays of orchids, vendors selling plants, orchid supplies and lots of people willing to help you with your orchids. We're going to have a potting demonstration and help people with how to pot them, and go through that process."

The displays were judged by a panel on Saturday. If you wanted a chance at a ribbon or trophy, there were a few things your display needed to have: an abundance of large flowers.

Some of these orchid collectors have been growing  orchids for almost thirty years, but this event was not just for those with experience. It also gave a chance for new collectors to learn the trade  and purchase their very own orchids.

There were about ten vendors at the event selling these flowers, as well as answering any questions for new planters.

Members of the Central East Texas Orchid Society meet the third Sunday of the month at 2:00 p.m. in the Genecov Room at the Chamber of Commerce Building in downtown Tyler, Texas.
