Gladewater, Texas (KETK) — Multiple agencies are working together to remove a large amount of mixed breed dogs and cats from a residence in Upshur County. Officials said about 65 animals will be taken from the location about four miles north of Gladewater.
According to Upshur County Precinct 1 Constable Gene Dolle, a search warrant and seizure warrant were served at a house on Kings Way off North Pleasant Point Road around 8 a.m. The warrants were issued after people living there refused to allow authorities onto the property.
The SPCA will take control of the animals and transport them to their headquarters in McKinney, Texas, for treatment. Many of the animals are in poor condition, according to Constable Dolle. Two veterinary technicians are on scene assisting.
Dolle said some of the dogs are aggressive, but no injuries have occurred. There are also animals running loose, but officials are working to catch them and place them in containers. The animals not loose were held in makeshift cages and purchased containers.
No deceased animals have been found on the property at this time.
Authorities expect to have the animals caught and en route to SPCA grounds by late this afternoon. The animals will be separated by field evaluations.
The Longview animal control, Longview Humane Society, Gladewater animal control are assisting with the seizure. The East Mountain Police Department is helping with traffic control and locating animals.
Dolle praised the hard work and cooperation of all agencies involved.
"It's great the agencies can all work together to get a job done. The SCPA is a great agency and have the necessary equipment to help and I'm very impressed," Dolle told KETK.
No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
