Tyler, Texas (KETK) —
During Tuesday's Tyler City Council meeting, the board decided to reduce the speed limit from 55 miles per hour to 50 on a portion of Farm to Market Road 2493 after a traffic accident data report and speed study were analyzed.
On December 5, the Traffic Safety Board has discussions regarding the proposed reduction in the speed zone based on results from the TXDOT speed study conducted in November, 2013. The result prompted the TSB to recommend approval to decrease the speed limit. The portion runs from the Brookshire's Wildlife Museum to the south city line.
"Old Jacksonville Highway has seen a lot of intense development in the last several years on the speed limit needs to be adjusted to account for the additional traffic," said City Manager Mark McDaniel. "From the analysis of the study, we believe reducing the speed limit on the road will improve driver safety."
