For many families, Father's Day is a chance to grab your fishing poles and head to the lake to spend some time with Dad.

Father's day is usually dominated by neckties and new pocket watches, but what the dad's told KETK Saturday afternoon, the best gift they got, was time.

A fishing trip with dad may not always be successful, but that doesn't mean it isn't worth while.

Brooks Meltzer, drove the family from San Antonio to Lake Palestine to get some time together.

Time that's harder and harder to find.

But that importance is why Mike Weeks, with East Texas Fishing, says Father's Day is one of his busiest times.

And even though some of the hooks were empty, the kids at Lake Palestine did not seem to mind, because they got to spend the day with Dad.

Where I volunteer there is a man whose children have nothing to do with him since his divorce twenty years ago. He's responsible and has a good job, never been in trouble and liked by those who work with him, but his children, now grown, ignore him. On father's day I always make it a point to call him and just visit. Child abuse can sometimes be mother's who poison their children against their fathers.
