Valentine's Day is fast approaching, it's one holiday where many tend to splurge on their Valentine.

The National Retail Federation reports, Americans will spend more than $17-billion dollars on the romantic holiday on dinner, gifts, flowers and chocolate. East Texans we spoke to say, yeah going out to dinner and all the cute stuff is nice, but spending valentine's day at home is pretty special.

"We are going to have dinner at home, rather early like 5:30 p.m.. or 6:00p.m. then we are downtown to go to the Liberty to see Casablanca the greatest love story," said Emma Flynn.

"It's more intimate and quite and you don't have to get out if the weather is bad and you don't have to fight the crowd," said Marla Peer, Valentine's shopper.

Food Expert, Kyle Glasscock at Fresh by Brookshire's says, what about a dinner made with love and friendship. "Putting your heart into a meal says a lot more about that special person. Steak is always great, Lobster is fantastic."

Pam Gabriel of Sweet Gourmet says, a lot of customers have been coming into Sweet Gourmet looking for ideas. "We have a lot of men, and it's so fun to talk to them, and they'll come in and say well here's my idea, and I want to do this, will you help me, and of course we do."

Gabriel says, spending Valentine's at home is great idea and they've got folks covered. "Whether it's helping them with a card, to write a card...to giving them an idea of a meal, from start to finish from an appetizer from a main whether it be steaks on the grill or Italian food."

"If a man sat down and wrote a love note, that's just it.. what else is there to do that's words from your heart and that's what's is all about," said Peer.
