Spooky Economy Hits Halloween Sales

October 3, 2009 - 8:28pm

TYLER - If your Halloween won't be complete without the perfect Disney princess costume, don't wait to buy it.

Like the rest of us, Halloween retailers have been hit by the economy.

For some retailers that means they're changing what they stock, focusing more on lower-priced items and stocking fewer brand name items that tend to be more expensive.

But for Charlotte Gomez and her husband, who've run Spirit Halloween in Tyler for the past few years, they say they haven't had to change much at all.

"We do have sales on occasion we get things that are marked down but overall its affordable," Mrs. Gomez says.

Like other Halloween stores around the nation, Spirit Halloween is opening a week earlier than normal this year, hoping to draw more shoppers.

Even though national reports say Americans are expected to spend a little less this year on Halloween, the Gomez's are still expecting a good season.
